Goat Cheese Truffles

Are you exited about seeing Catching Fire on DVD on March 7th? I sure am! This yummy appie is from The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook and I loved them so much, I plan to make them again for my Catching Fire DVD release party! Keep coming back over the next few weeks for more Hunger Games inspired recipes and a tutorial.

These are really simple to make. The most tedious part for me was chopping the herbs. It does have a very vivid herb flavour to it. Next time I might only add 3-4 tablespoons of the herb mixture to them for a less intense flavour.

I also preferred the ones that were coated in chopped almonds, but that's just my own tastes. My 9 year old preferred the one with paprika sprinkled over it.

Want more appetizers? Check out this board:

  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh oregano, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups goat cheese
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 4 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh ground pepper
  • 1/4 cup roasted almonds, chopped {optional}
  • 4 tsp paprika {optional}

    1. In a small bowl, combine the basil, thyme and oregano.
    2. In a slightly larger bowl, mix the goat cheese, cream cheese, green onions, pepper, and 4-5 tablespoons of the herb mixture until smooth. Portion the cheese mixture into balls the size of 2 tablespoons, rolling them in the palm of your hands. It helps if your hands are moist.
    3. Roll the cheese balls in chopped nuts or the rest of the herb mixture, or sprinkle paprika over them. Serve with toothpicks.
